New Earrings

I've got that mellow relaxed feeling at the moment, knowing I've got the next two days off work. But it does mean I'm working this weekend though........

My plans for tomorrow (Weds) are to make a start on a project for Bead magazine that needs to be in by December. I know what I'm doing it's just taking the step-by-step photos and the weather issue! It's meant to be a bright day tomorrow so it should be full steam ahead (camera battery on charge as I write!)

I managed to get all of my new earrings photographed last week which is always a relief. Here's some of them.......


These green enamel ovals have been hanging around for a while then I suddenly thought those pretty pink and green czech glass nuggets might go ok with them!



Dogtooth Amethyst and sterling silver hoop earrings made as part of my last Bead project



I twisted the copper wire for these using my Dremel



I'm planning on making more of these in other colours.....



I had fun stamping these copper discs even though I have to do it on my knees on the kitchen floor! The table I work on isn't sturdy enough and you end up with a shadow when you try and stamp on it so everything gets moved to the kitchen ~ hammer, bench block, copper, stamps...... plus at least one cat wondering what the hell I'm doing!

    It doesn't matter what you're doing, a cat will always come over to see... and, usually, plop down in the big middle of it! (hahaha!) Hope all your pics for the magazine turn out as well as your earring shots did. LOVE the poppy earrings! I mean, they're all great, but I seem to like those best. (shrugs)

    your earrings are all simply beautiful...and u poor thing stamping on the floor...i saw Lisa Niven Kelley once camping and she was stamping on a tree stump...she said it was the best thing she had ever stamped on...maybe you can find a smaller one and turn it into a stamping bench for yourself...just a thought to get you off your knees :)...

    Magazine project all done yesterday. That's a good idea to use a tree stump for stamping.... I just need to find one now!

My Jewellery Shed Gets A Lick Of Paint

At the end of last summer, after an incredibly busy few months jewellery-wise, I decided to take a break and repaint my shed. I'd painted it a pale green colour when I first got it and it was starting to look a bit faded and sad. Etching Copper With Ferric Chloride

 I decided recently that etching is one of my favourite things to do with metal. I read about it online quite a while ago and immediately thought it looked cool but the thought of using an "acid" and having to find somewhere to store it (a perennial problem when you don't have a workroom) put me off. So instead I admired etched copper from afar. Until I got a bee in my bonnet about it again and bought Lexi Erikson's copper etching dvd. Lexi Erikson is very good at explaining jewellery techniques and making them seem much more straightforward than they first appear. I already knew that ferric chloride was a salt and not an acid so wouldn't eat my flesh through to the bone if I accidently spilled some on my hand. The dvd made me feel much more comfortable about having a go so I ordered some ferric chloride from ebay and bought some stamps and StazOn ink from a local craft shop. Combining Soldering And Enamel

The need to make cute, brightly coloured enamel studs propelled me into the world of combining soldering with enamel a couple of years ago. I knew from reading up on it that it was possible to enamel and solder on the same piece but wasn't too confident I was able to do it back then. It was a slightly embarrassing occurance that made me just get on with - I'd made some enamel studs with glued on stud posts. I'd used 2 part epoxy resin which was a job in itself as it set hard after 5 minutes so I had to keep mixing more up. The finished studs looked ok but that little voice in my head kept asking "are you sure you want to use glue?" I wasn't but didn't think I had any other way to do it so I used glue. I sold my first pair and merrily sent them on their way to Canada. A couple of week later the buyer got in touch to say the stud post had come off one of the earrings and the other was hanging off.
