Horrible Cats, Grasshoppers And Free Moo Cards


Aren't cats horrible sometimes?

Earlier today when I was engrossed on the computer ordering my 50 free Moo business cards, this horrible creature on the left, who goes by the name of Eddie ("do my eyes match this cushion?")  appeared in the dining room with a sparrow!

After 5 minutes of me running round the house after him shouting "Out, out!" he then ran back outside and proceeded to devour the poor sparrow. After much crunching all that was left was a pile of feathers and a claw. I was going to take a photo but thought that would be a bit unsavourary!

Backyard Wildlife

I heard it yesterday but didn't see it, but today I heard it, saw it and photographed it! Yes it's a grasshopper with a missing back leg!
My other cat Charlie was very interested in it but as he treats insects as snacks I made sure he couldn't get to it. I also saw a bright green one earlier today which I'm assuming was a younger one.







I don't think I'll win any prizes for my spectacular wildlife photography though!

    What beautiful eyes!!

    A friend of mine has two cats and they're both hunters. One brought a live squirrel in and let it go. That was 'fun'. Less fun was when he bought in another squirrel and let it bleed out on the carpet... I don't mind going round to feed them if she's away but really don't enjoy the dead animal hunt (I've had to deal with mice, rats, snakes, birds and one horrific occasion- a maggoty pigeon. Yuck!) I'm feeding them next weekend- wonder if I'll get any nice surprises

    Awww, your cat is ever so cute [I see you have three, lucky!] but what a horrid thing to see/happen! Can't blame him though, just instinct I guess.
    I saw that thing for free moo on the folksy forums - may have to get some! :)

    lol, our cat often brings things in, I find it so frustrating, bits of bird over the living room mice in your shoes. . . UGH!

My Jewellery Shed Gets A Lick Of Paint

At the end of last summer, after an incredibly busy few months jewellery-wise, I decided to take a break and repaint my shed. I'd painted it a pale green colour when I first got it and it was starting to look a bit faded and sad. Etching Copper With Ferric Chloride

 I decided recently that etching is one of my favourite things to do with metal. I read about it online quite a while ago and immediately thought it looked cool but the thought of using an "acid" and having to find somewhere to store it (a perennial problem when you don't have a workroom) put me off. So instead I admired etched copper from afar. Until I got a bee in my bonnet about it again and bought Lexi Erikson's copper etching dvd. Lexi Erikson is very good at explaining jewellery techniques and making them seem much more straightforward than they first appear. I already knew that ferric chloride was a salt and not an acid so wouldn't eat my flesh through to the bone if I accidently spilled some on my hand. The dvd made me feel much more comfortable about having a go so I ordered some ferric chloride from ebay and bought some stamps and StazOn ink from a local craft shop. Combining Soldering And Enamel

The need to make cute, brightly coloured enamel studs propelled me into the world of combining soldering with enamel a couple of years ago. I knew from reading up on it that it was possible to enamel and solder on the same piece but wasn't too confident I was able to do it back then. It was a slightly embarrassing occurance that made me just get on with - I'd made some enamel studs with glued on stud posts. I'd used 2 part epoxy resin which was a job in itself as it set hard after 5 minutes so I had to keep mixing more up. The finished studs looked ok but that little voice in my head kept asking "are you sure you want to use glue?" I wasn't but didn't think I had any other way to do it so I used glue.
